david byRne talkS about i think music in wired magazine
We are feeling very excited at ithinkmusic after learning about a conversation that took place between David Byrne and Brian Eno in a restaurant somewhere over a bowl of soup and a salad.

The conversation comes from an article David Byrne wrote for Wired magazine
entitled, 'David Byrne's Survival Strategies for Emerging Artists - and Megastars'.

I Think Music is sited by Brian Eno in reference to a solution for Artists to sell their downloads direct to the public to ensure the best deal.

Byrne writes, " .....But some labels will disappear, as the roles they used to play get chopped up and delivered by more thrifty services. In a recent conversation I had with Brian Eno (who is producing the next Coldplay album and writing with U2), he was enthusiastic about I Think Music — an online network of indie bands, fans, and stores — and pessimistic about the future of traditional labels. "Structurally, they're much too large,

Eno said. "And they're entirely on the defensive now. The only idea they have is that they can give you a big advance — which is still attractive to a lot of young bands just starting out. But that's all they represent now: capital."

You can read the whole article here, http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/magazine/16-01/ff_byrne?currentPage=2
where you will also find soundclips from the conversation in the restaurant.

POST MIDEM

midem newsmidem

As some of you may be aware Michael Cassidy from ithinkmusic attended Midem, the music conference in cannes, from the 27th to the 30th of january. We'd like to thank Midem for given us the opportunity to speak on a panel as part of midemNet with Ted Cohen (from MidemNet Visionary Chair Committee) and for writing about us in their daily news update (Click the image on the right to enlarge).

But most of all we'd like to thank all the independent labels we talked to firstly for their time and secondly for their warm response to our project. We can already announce Fluid Ounce, Hip Hop Village & Landor Records have joined the project and soon (once the dust settles and the conference hangovers disperse) we hope to announce the participation of a whole lot more wonderful indie label.
